Elon Musk-owned Grok faced a new breach on Friday, with users reporting problems accessing its AI chatbot, generating responses and logging into the platform, according to outage-tracking website Downdetector.
User complaints about Downdetector increased throughout the day, with many failed reports, empty responses, and “high demand” messages when trying to use the chatbot through X and standalone Grok apps. Several users have also posted screenshots on social media showing the AI assistant not responding to queries.
Grok is developed by xAI and is integrated into the social media platform X. Since its launch in 2023, the chatbot has become one of the main rivals of ChatGPT by OpenAI and Google Gemini.
Users are reporting widespread access and responsiveness issues with Grok
News of Friday’s outage comes amid a series of recurring outages that have plagued Grok over the past few months. Earlier this year, publications including The Economic Times, Hindustan Times and IBTimes Australia reported widespread problems with the chatbot, with users complaining of login failures, delayed responses and “high demand” error messages.
According to a report by The Economic Times, in March of this year Grok users reported that the chatbot had “stopped responding” completely, while Downdetector recorded hundreds of complaints worldwide. The publication said several users took to social media to ask Elon Musk when the service would be restored.
Technology publication The Information has also reported widespread outages affecting Grok users in recent weeks, particularly during periods of heavy traffic and product updates.
Discussions on Reddit reflected growing frustration among subscribers, particularly with repeated “high demand” errors and a lack of official communication from xAI. One Reddit user wrote that “The mine detector blew up since Tuesday,” while another complained that the chatbot “became ‘unusable for 3-5 days.’
Recent reports from the Hindustan Times and IBTimes Australia noted that Grok’s outages have increasingly coincided with surges in user demand, software rollouts and infrastructure-related issues.
At the time of this report, xAI has not issued an official statement on the latest outage. The company’s public system status page continued to show services as operational. However, users continued to report occasional access issues across regions.
