Announcing a nationwide anti-conversion initiative, Vishwa Hindu Parishad National Joint General Secretary Surendra Kumar Jain said VHP representatives would soon meet chief ministers across the country with a proposed “model anti-conversion law” to prevent religious conversions through coercive or fraudulent means.
Dr. Addressing mediapersons here on Thursday, Jain warned the Telangana government against misuse of the proposed hate speech law, alleging that it could be used to target Hindu votes. He warned that the VHP would launch a nationwide agitation if the legislation was implemented in an unfair manner.
“The VHP will continue its fight from the streets to the courts to protect the cultural and religious rights of the Hindu society,” he said, expressing strong concerns over cow slaughter, temple management and the protection of Sanatana Dharma.
He alleged that the implementation of the Prohibition of Cow Slaughter Act, 1977 in Telangana has been ineffective and claimed that no conviction under the Act has been secured in the last five decades. He announced that the VHP would form a legal cell that would recommend changes to the state government for stricter law enforcement.
The VHP leader also condemned what some political leaders called “anti-Hindu rhetoric”, referring to minister Konda Surekha’s recent remarks, and said the Hindu community would not tolerate insults against Sanatan traditions.
Dr. Jain demanded that temples be freed from government control and managed by Hindu society. He stated that the revenue from the temple should be used exclusively for Hindu religious and cultural activities. “We believe in socialization, not temple rule,” he noted.
Among those present on the occasion were Akarapu Keshavaraju, B. Narasimha Murthy, Dr. Ravinuthala Shashidhar, T. Yadagiri Rao, G. Ramesh, Chintala Venkanna and M. Subash Chander.
