M. Maheshwar Rao, Chief Commissioner, Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) directed all the five corporations to organize parades of PRAHARI vehicles in their respective jurisdictions and ensure that emergency response systems are fully prepared for heavy rains, floods and related civic challenges.
In addition, he directed officials that all tree-felling vehicles, machinery and related emergency equipment must be thoroughly inspected, with commissioners required to submit a comprehensive preparedness report within a week.
Commissioners have also been instructed to inspect control rooms and ensure that all necessary measures, emergency systems and personnel are fully equipped to respond effectively during heavy rains and floods.
Mr. Rao noted that special priority has been given to flood-prone railway low-lying areas. City Corporation officials and railway officials will jointly inspect each vulnerable spot, coordinate necessary interventions, address waterlogging and leakage issues and expedite ongoing works to minimize monsoon disruptions.
He said a feasibility study would be done to purchase garbage collectors in the required number to strengthen sanitation systems and maintain cleanliness across the city. He also ordered the immediate cleaning, maintenance and desilting of road medians whenever necessary to improve drainage efficiency.
Removal of dilapidated structures
In the interest of public safety, Mr. Rao said dilapidated buildings and unsafe complexes across the city need to be identified and removed on priority.
In addition, the Central City Corporation has established a committee within the corporation to identify such structures and clear them as soon as possible. The committee will be responsible for identifying all such structures across the corporation.
