Around 5,000 yoga practitioners are expected to take part in a mass yoga demonstration outside Vidhana Soudha in Bengaluru on June 21 as part of the state-level celebrations of the 12th International Yoga Day, Karnataka Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao said on Wednesday.
Addressing reporters here after releasing posters and postcards on yoga, Mr. Rao said the event would be organized in accordance with the guidelines issued by the AYUSH Ministry under this year’s theme ‘Yoga for Health, Knowledge and Global Peace’.
The state level program will be held from 6:00 am to 8:00 am with the participation of AYUSH colleges, yoga institutions and various organizations. The 45-minute session of the Joint Yoga Protocol prescribed by the Union government will be held simultaneously across Karnataka from 7:00 am to 7:45 am, he said.
Governor to be inaugurated
Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot is expected to inaugurate the programme. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar, ministers, legislators, senior officials and yoga gurus are also expected to attend.
Mr. Rao added that efforts are also underway to invite sportspersons, celebrities and public figures to raise awareness about yoga.
Educational programs
The government organized awareness programs at the district, taluk and village levels to promote yoga and holistic well-being.
Several themed programs are also planned in Bengaluru and Mysuru. Special events like ‘Vijnana Yoga’ at IISc Bengaluru, ‘Carcino Yoga’ at Kidwai Memorial Institute of Oncology and ‘Cardio Yoga’ at Sri Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences and Research in Mysuru are planned in the run up to Yoga Day.
The Government Ayurveda Research Center in Mysuru will organize national social media competitions and yoga related activities in schools. More than one million people and 25,000 students are expected to attend.
Nearly 25 million people across Karnataka are expected to participate in the Yoga Day event on June 21.
