
Cochin University of Science and Technology (Cusat) authorities have justified the fee hike across various heads in the new academic year.
The Students’ Federation of India (SFI) has sent a letter to the authorities expressing concern over the recent hike in various student fees. He urged the authorities to review and reconsider the structure of the increased fees. Authorities pointed out that a sub-committee of the syndicate had suggested changes in the fee structure, including hikes under various heads. It was approved by the Syndicate meeting held in December 2025.
A letter submitted by the Students’ Federation of India pointed out that there has been a substantial increase in the regular academic fees to be paid at the time of admission in 2026 compared to the rates in 2025. The deposit has been increased to ₹3,000 from ₹1,580 last year, while the extra-curricular activity fee has increased from ₹416,000 to ₹10,100 The graduate fee has been also increased to ₹800 from ₹610 last year, the paper said.
The federation said the newly introduced one-time establishment fee and hike in fee revision in the NRI category will increase the burden on students in the new academic year.
