Hyderabad traffic police and Attapur police have booked a 28-year-old man for using a fake number plate on his car to evade traffic challans and mislead law enforcement agencies.
The accused has been identified as Syed Rizwan Ali, a resident of Upparpally in Rajendranagar and a native of Karimnagar district.
According to the police, the case came to light during traffic checks conducted by the traffic police in Hyderabad. On checking, the officers found that the accused had affixed a fake license plate with the number MH04KW7706 on the car.
Police said the accused used a fake registration number with the intention of avoiding fines for traffic violations and misleading government enforcement agencies. As a result, traffic challans created for offenses committed by the vehicle were allegedly issued against the actual registered owner of the number plate, a resident of Mulund West, Mumbai.
Based on the findings, the Attapur police registered a case under the relevant provisions of e Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Act and the Motor Vehicles Act.
The police issued a notice to the accused under Section 35(3) of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS). Further investigation is underway to ascertain the actual registration details of the vehicle used by the accused.
The police use automatic license plate recognition
The Hyderabad Traffic Police has warned that using fake, identical or altered number plates is a serious offense under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita Act and the Motor Vehicles Act. The police said advanced surveillance systems, including CCTV cameras and Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) systems, are being used to identify such offenses and monitor the movement of vehicles across the city.
