
“The Jammu and Kashmir Police on Tuesday (May 12, 2026) felicitated 70 personnel for their role in the successful 17-day anti-terror operation conducted in Kathua district earlier this year,” officials said.
A ceremony was held at Kathua District Police Lines on Tuesday (May 12, 2026) to honor those associated with the operation that began in Padetar area of Billawar hill range in Kathua district from January 7 to January 23 this year.
“During the operation, security forces neutralized a Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) terrorist identified as Usman after an extensive cordon and search operation in the difficult terrain of Padetar,” a police spokesman said.
He said 70 personnel of the Kathua Police and the Special Operations Group (SOG) were awarded cash rewards and certificates of appreciation for their contribution in gathering intelligence, controlling the area and executing the operation.
The Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Kathua, Mohita Sharma, presided over the function and appreciated the courage, professionalism and dedication of the personnel during the operation.
Addressing the gathering, the SSP said that the successful operation reflected the unwavering determination of the Kathua police to maintain peace and thwart the designs of terrorist outfits.
She said such operations are successful because of seamless coordination, timely intelligence inputs and the bravery of ground forces.
