Earlier, SP Lok Sabha MP Ajendra Singh Lodhi was charged in Mahoba with assaulting a public servant and promoting hatred after he called Prime Minister Narendra Modi “anti-national”, police said on Tuesday (May 12, 2026). Mr. Lodhi, a Lok Sabha MP from the Hamirpur constituency, was booked on May 11 under sections 132 (assault on a public servant), 189(2) (unlawful assembly), 196(1) (promoting enmity) and 352 (intentional insult) of the IPC. On May 11, Mr. Lodhi and his supporters submitted an 11-point memorandum to the power department that highlighted power outages and smart meter problems, among other issues. The BJP alleged that the SP MP’s march to the government office had caused a blockade, disrupted traffic and prevented public administration employees from working. He also alleged that Mr Lodhi had called Mr Modi “anti-national”.
A video of the incident that surfaced on social media showed the lawmaker criticizing Mr. Modi’s austerity appeal to people on gold and fuel consumption. The SP MP allegedly used slurs against Mr Modi and called him a “desh-virodhi (anti-national)” prime minister.
SP president Akhilesh Yadav distanced the party from the comment. “We were never in favor of such language being used against anyone. I am not in favor of what Ajendra Singh said. He expressed his pain but the language used to express was not right,” Mr Yadav said in Prayagraj.
