Pat Cummins has been penalized for slow speeding during the Sunrisers Hyderabad IPL 2026 clash against Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. As it was SRH’s first over-the-top offense of the season, the captain was fined INR 12 thousand.
Slow over-rate violations have become a known problem in the IPL and many captains have faced sanctions in the past few seasons. The likes of Shreyas Iyer and Ajinkya Rahane have already been punished for the same offense this season. For Cummins, the penalty only added to the disappointment of the evening SRH slumped to a heavy defeat against GT.
“Pat Cummins, Captain, Sunrisers Hyderabad, was fined after his team maintained a slow pace during TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 Match No. 56 against Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.’
“As this was his team’s first offense of the season under Article 2.22 of the IPL Code of Conduct, which deals with minor overstatement offences, Cummins was fined INR 12 thousand,” the IPL statement said.
ROUND DAY SRH IN AHMEDABAD
Sunrisers Hyderabad endured a batting nightmare to lose by 82 runs after being chased down for just 86 in 14.5 overs at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Tuesday. The visitors never looked settled in the chase as the Gujarat bowlers completely dismantled the batting line-up.
The defeat became SRH’s heaviest in IPL history in terms of runs, eclipsing their previous worst – an 80-run loss against Kolkata Knight Riders last season, when they were dismissed for 120 while chasing 201. The collapse proved even more dramatic, with Hyderabad posting their lowest total in IPL history.
It was also the first occasion since 2024 that SRH failed to chase down a target of under 200 in the IPL. Their score of 86 was 10 runs short of their previous lowest total of 96, recorded against Mumbai Indians in Hyderabad in 2019, ending a humiliating night for the batting unit.
After a crushing defeat, Cummins urged his side to move on quickly and recover before their next match.
“That’s what happens in T20 cricket. (Now) we go to places we know well so we take confidence from that. We’ve won five or six (matches) and that gives us a bit of breathing space so let’s go back to what got us those wins and put it behind us quickly,” Cummins said.
SRH face CSK in Chepauk on Monday, May 18 next year.
