Visakhapatnam Member of Parliament M. Sribharat on Tuesday called for comprehensive reforms to improve health services at King George Hospital (KGH). He emphasized the need for better supervision, efficient use of staff and stronger patient referral systems.
The MP, along with Visakhapatnam District Collector M. Abhishikth Kishore, chaired the hospital development committee meeting at Andhra Medical College after inspecting various departments in the hospital, including the outpatient wing, paediatrics, orthopedics and emergency care facilities.
During the review meeting, Mr. Sribharat said complaints were received regarding delays in services due to shortage or non-availability of staff in certain sections. He ordered officials to reduce wait times for MRIs, CT scans and lab tests.
The MP also pointed to differences in bed utilization, saying that while some wards were overcrowded, beds remained free in other wards. He called for better coordination and redistribution of resources.
He instructed the hospital authorities to improve emergency care facilities, solve air-conditioning problems, keep toilets clean and ensure availability of stretchers and parking facilities. He also emphasized the need for effective assistance services to help patients and caregivers.
Expressing concern over shortage of medicines and medical supplies, Mr. Sribharat directed officials to ensure continuous availability of essential medicines provided free of charge under government health services. He also warned against illegal collections allegedly carried out by some employees and external workers.
Mr. Kishore said that eight “Can I Help You” counters have already been set up in the hospital premises, adding that steps are being taken to strengthen patient counseling and monitoring systems.
The meeting was attended by Visakhapatnam South MLA Vamsi Krishna Srinivas, NTR Vaidya Seva Trust Chairman Seethamraju Sudhakar, Andhra Medical College Principal Dr. Sandhya Devi and senior doctors.
