Five people, including two children, were killed in a road accident on the Mahabubnagar bypass on Monday (May 11).
The accident occurred when a sports bike, a Suzuki Hayabusa (HR 26 BP 1491), collided with a car while turning on the X-road between 12:30 and 1:00 am.
Two families were traveling in the car. Among them were Md Bashid (39), his wife Ashiya (35), their children including Huzaifa (9) and Harshiya Begum (32) along with their one-and-a-half-year-old son Ahmed.
Ashiya and Huzaifa were among those killed in the accident, along with another child.
The motorcycle was driven by Md Yakub, 25, while Owais, 30, was the pilot rider. Police said the motorcycle belonged to Owais and that he was not wearing his helmet strap at the time of the accident.
According to the police, the car (TS 06 FG 4970) was going towards Kanakpet after the families attended a social function. While turning at the roundabout, the motorcycle, which was traveling towards Hyderabad, rammed into the back of the car. “The impact was such that the woman and two children died on the spot along with the men on the bike. The speed of their two-wheeler has not yet been determined,” said the police officer.
The accident has parallels with the September 2011 crash of former Indian cricketer Md Azharuddin’s son, 19-year-old Mohammed Ayazuddin, who suffered fatal injuries after the Hayabusa superbike he was riding skidded on the Outer Ring Road near Puppalguda. His cousin Ajmal-ur-Rahman, who was traveling, died on the spot, while Ayazuddin succumbed to his injuries five days later.
