Following in the footsteps of neighboring Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary on Monday (May 11, 2026) announced that the police will have full latitude to crack down on criminals.
Mr. Choudhary said that if any criminal dared to attack the police, the police would respond within 48 hours and irrespective of the caste or religion of the criminals, they would not be spared. He claimed that the aim was to keep Bihar crime-free. He indirectly hinted that criminals would be eliminated within 48 hours of committing any crime.
This was evident from the fact that last month, Ramdhani Yadav, the prime accused in the murder of Sultanganj Municipal Corporation Officer Krishan Bhushan Kumar in Bihar’s Bhagalpur district, was killed within 24 hours in a police encounter.
Mr. Choudhary’s statement came a day after a major reshuffle in the bureaucracy saw the transfer of 11 IAS and 16 IPS officers to focus on law and order.
The chief minister was speaking after inaugurating a new road named after Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national president Nitin Nabin’s father, Naveen Kishor Prasad Sinha, in Patna. Mr. Nabin was also present for his father’s birth anniversary.
“I would like to express my special thanks to former Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and Mr. Nabin for their role in the construction of this road. Mr. Nabin served as MLA for this constituency and shares a deep bond with the people of this region,” Mr. Choudhary said while inaugurating the road, which falls under the Bankipur Assembly constituency now represented by Mr. Rajya Sabaya Nabin.
The Chief Minister added that under the leadership of Mr. Kumar, an era of good governance was ushered in Bihar and Prime Minister Narendra Modi worked tirelessly to transform India into a developed country.
Good governance
“Our priority remains to promote good governance in Bihar. Rule of law prevails in the state. If industries are to be brought to Bihar, the pace of good governance must be accelerated. If any criminal dares to attack the police, the police will respond within 48 hours. Irrespective of the criminal’s caste or religion,” he said, they will not be spared. The goal is to keep Mr. Bihar crime-free. Choud
He further instructed officials to install a statue of late Naveen Kishore Prasad Sinha at the site by next year, at the time of his birth anniversary. Deputy Chief Minister Bijendra Prasad Yadav, Urban Development and Housing Minister Nitish Mishra, Cooperative Minister Ram Kripal Yadav and BJP state president Sanjay Saraogi were also present.
In another program at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat, Mr. Choudhary also inaugurated a real-time monitoring system for the ‘Sahyog’ helpline number 1100 and the ‘Sahyog’ portal (sahyog.bihar.gov.in), both associated with the ‘Sahyog Shivir’ (Remote Help Camp) initiative.
Redressal of complaints
Sahyog helpline number 1100 and Sahyog portal were launched with the motive of redressal of grievances of general public. Under the Sahyog Shivir programme, panchayat level camps would be organized on the first and third Tuesday of every month to address and resolve the problems of the people.
“Grievances will be redressed within 30 days through Sahyog Shivirs at Panchayat level. District Magistrate and Superintendent of Police will monitor the process in real time. If the concerned officer fails to process the application and issue an order for dereliction of duty within 30 days,” Choud said.
