The YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) has strongly opposed the state government’s proposal to allow beach shacks along Visakhapatnam’s coastline, saying such a move would lead to deterioration of law and order.
YSRCP leaders led by Visakhaatnam district president KK Raju and women leaders staged a protest at Ramakrishna Beach against the government’s move to set up beach huts. Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Raju said that before coming to power, TDP chief N. Chandrababu Naidu had announced that he would create wealth through a vast coastal line.
“The state government, which has failed to utilize the state’s coastline properly, is now chanting the mantra of ‘bar and beer’,” he alleged. Mr. Raju said the government would sideline traditional and conventional tourism and promote liquor trade in the name of tourism.
Mr. Raju said that women and children visit the beaches to enjoy themselves, but with the construction of beach huts, they will not feel safe.
“The state government should set up fishing piers and harbors instead of promoting liquor,” he said.
YSRCP leaders also criticized Visakhapatnam MP M Sribharat and TDP state president Palla Srinivasa Rao for speaking in support of beach shacks.
