A newborn boy was found dead in a roadside drain near Basaveshwar Circle in Gadigondgaon village of Hulsoor taluk in Bidar district on Sunday, sparking concern among residents.
According to sources, a resident of Jaihind Meter spotted the body in the drain and immediately alerted his friends.
He later visited the spot along with the village elders and informed the Hulsoor police station.
Police officers arrived at the scene and took the body to the Community Health Center for an autopsy.
The doctors who performed the examination suspected that the baby may have been born prematurely and abandoned in an attempt to conceal the birth.
Jaihind Meter has lodged a complaint with the police demanding that those responsible for the inhumane act be identified and brought to justice.
A case has been registered at Hulsoor police station. An investigation is underway.
