Communist Party of India (CPI) Andhra Pradesh State Secretary Eswaraiah on Sunday (May 10, 2026) demanded the immediate resignation of Union Home Minister Bandi Sanjay Kumar from both his ministerial post and Lok Sabha membership following the registration of a POCSO case against his son in Telangana.
In a statement, Mr. Eswaraiah said a case was registered against Bandi Sai Bhageerath, son of a Union minister, under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses Act (POCSO) at Basheerabad police station in Telangana for allegedly molesting a 17-year-old girl.
He further alleged that the BJP leadership’s silence on the matter reflects political hypocrisy and an effort to protect the accused.
Mr. Eswaraiah expressed concern that if Mr. Kumar continued in office, it could hinder a fair investigation and said there was a possibility of influencing the investigation or tampering with evidence through abuse of power. He argued that the resignation was necessary to ensure justice for the victim.
The CPI leader presented three key demands to the government: Mr. Kumar’s immediate resignation to allow for a transparent investigation, maximum police protection for the victim and her family, and a time-bound impartial investigation free from political pressure and influence.
He also urged the government to take strict measures to prevent such incidents from happening again and show that the law applies equally to all.
