US President Donald Trump said on Sunday (May 10th) that he had reviewed Iran’s latest response to a US proposal to end the ongoing conflict in the Middle East and strongly rejected Tehran’s position.
Writing on Truth Social, Trump indicated frustration with Iran’s response delivered through diplomatic channels.
“I just read the response from Iran’s so-called ‘representatives’. I don’t like it – ABSOLUTELY UNACCEPTABLE!” Trump wrote.
Another setback in the ceasefire negotiations
Trump’s remarks come as Washington and Iran continue indirect talks on a possible framework for a ceasefire and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.
Iranian state media reported earlier on Sunday that Tehran had sent its response to the latest US proposal through Pakistani intermediaries, although officials did not release details of the message.
The US proposal reportedly included the gradual reopening of the Strait of Hormuz along with the gradual easing of the US blockade of Iranian ports.
Tensions remain high
Despite ongoing diplomatic efforts, tensions between the two countries remain elevated over Iran’s nuclear program, shipping lanes in the Persian Gulf and recent military exchanges in the region.
The Trump administration has repeatedly warned that military escalation remains possible if talks fail, while Tehran has insisted it will not accept pressure on its nuclear activities or regional policy.
This is a developing story.
