The Thiruvananthapuram rural police have intensified their search for a notorious historian accused of sexually abusing a mentally challenged woman at the KSRTC bus stand in Kattakada during the early hours of Saturday.
According to the Kattakada police, the accused ‘Bruce Lee’ Shibu, who hails from Panniyode, allegedly molested the survivor when she was sleeping on a bench outside the station office around 1.30 am. The woman was seen loitering around the bus stop for several days.
While KSRTC employees rushed to the spot, the accused managed to flee before he could be apprehended. A subsequent review of CCTV footage by traffic officials revealed the extent of the crime, police said.
While the police initially faced a hurdle as the survivor disappeared from the bus station after the incident, she was subsequently found and moved to a secure home. He is expected to undergo a medical examination. After her statements are recorded and evidence is collected, further court proceedings will be initiated, the police said.
Shibu has several cases including those related to narcotics trafficking.
