Chennai Super Kings (LSG) registered their third straight win in IPL 2026 after beating Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) by five wickets at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Sunday, with Urvil Patel leading the chase with a 23-ball 65.Urvil’s innings included the fastest fifty in IPL history as he reached the landmark in just 13 balls. It was also the fastest fifty by a CSK batsman and his first IPL half-century. With the win, CSK moved up to fifth in the points table while LSG moved closer to elimination. It was also the first time since 2019 that CSK successfully chased down a target of over 180.Asked to bat first, LSG got off to a flying start through Josh Inglis, who smashed 85 off 33 balls as the visitors raced to 91 runs in the powerplay. However, the CSK bowlers fought back strongly after the restrictions on the pitch, with Jamie Overton returning figures of 3/36 to help restrict LSG to 203/8.CSK quickly started the chase through Sanju Samson and captain Ruturaj Gaikwad. But after Samson was bowled by Digvesh Rathi while attempting a quicker delivery, Urvil took over the game. The young batsman attacked from the start and quickly put the pressure back on LSG. He hit Avesh Khan for three sixes in one before smashing Rathi for another three sixes and a four. One of the biggest moments of the innings came when Urvil hit Mohammed Shami over long-on for his seventh six to move to 48 off 11 balls. He then reached his fifty in 13 balls, equaling Yashasvi Jaiswal’s IPL record from 2023.When Urvil reached the landmark, he pulled a slip of paper from his pocket that said, “This is for you, Dad,” along with a few lines written in Gujarati. The crowd in Chepauk responded with loud chants of “Urvil! Urvil!” while the ČSK dugout celebrated shifts.Urvil eventually fell for 65 off 23 balls, hitting eight sixes and two fours at a pace of 282.61. His innings also helped CSK post 97/1 in the powerplay, the highest powerplay score in Chepauk, having outclassed LSG’s 91 earlier in the match.Even after the dismissal of Urvil, the game was not over. LSG came back into the contest through Shahbaz Ahmed and Rathi, who removed Gaikwad and Dewald Brevis. Kartik Sharma added 20 before being dismissed by Avesh Khan, leaving CSK at 169/5 in the 17th over.As the pressure mounted, Prashant Veer and Shivam Dube stayed calm to complete the chase with four balls to spare. Veer remained unbeaten on 18 and was dismissed twice by Rathi and Nicholas Pooran during his innings. With 10 runs needed in the final over, the ball was handed to Aiden Markram. After playing two wides, he was hit for sixes by Dube as CSK sealed the win and kept their playoff hopes alive.
