Veteran Malayalam actor Madhu was honored with the Krishnanjali Award at his residence here on Saturday. The award, instituted by the Vayalar Ramavarma Cultural Forum in memory of film director M. Krishnan Nair, was presented to Mr. Madhu by former chief secretary K. Jayakumar, who is also the son of M. Krishnan Nair. On this occasion, there were significant figures from the artistic, cultural and literary spheres.
Pramod Payyannur, Member Secretary, Bharat Bhavan, read the citation. Recalling his association with Krishnan Nair, Mr. Madhu said they shared a deep friendship that went beyond a director-actor relationship. The bond also extended to his son Jayakumar, he said.
While presenting the award, Mr. Jayakumar spoke about his association with Mr. Madhu and reminisced about their time on film sets. The award also commemorates the 25th death anniversary of Krishnan Nair and the 50th death anniversary of Vayalar.
The award was presented to Mr. Madhu in recognition of his contribution to Malayalam cinema as an actor, director, producer and studio owner spanning more than six decades, said G. Rajamohan, president of the Vayalar Ramavarma Cultural Forum, and secretary Manacaud Ramachandran.
A memorial rally will be held at Bharat Bhavan on May 10 to mark the 25th death anniversary of Krishnan Nair. The event will be inaugurated by K. Madhu, Chairman, Kerala State Film Development Corporation (KSFDC).
