Sanju Samson seems to have put an end to the Chennai Super Kings skipper rumors with a simple message. Samson was traded from Rajasthan Royals ahead of the 2026 IPL season in a trade deal worth Rs. 18 Crore, with many feeling that he will come into the team as the new captain and replace Ruturaj Gaikwad.
Pundits have commented on the possibility of Samson getting the CSK captaincy in the future, with R Ashwin saying he will captain the five-time IPL champions in a couple of years.
“I’m no astrologer but I see Sanja captaining CSK at some stage. I don’t know when but I feel it could happen,” Ashwin said.
Now it was Samson himself who was talking about all the chatter around. In the promo video for the latest episode of the Super Kings podcast, Samson told Abhinav Mukunda that he doesn’t want to come to a new home with a lot of demands.
“When you’re trying to get into a new home, you don’t go in there with demands, that’s what I’ve learned to be very honest,” Samson said.
The part comes around the 0:40 mark in the video, which you can see below:
WHAT CSK SAID ABOUT SAMSON AS CAPTAIN
Ahead of the new season, ČSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan offered a glimpse into the team’s future structure. He said the team can benefit much more from Ruturaj Gaikwad’s captaincy. Speaking about Samson, he said they didn’t want to put a lot of pressure on him at first.
“Obviously we have Ruturaj who is also capable of taking the team to a higher level and his captaincy is one that will definitely lift the team,” Vishwanathan said.
“As for Sanju, we don’t want to put any pressure on him because we know his abilities.
Samson came into his own for CSK, scoring 402 runs in 10 matches with two hundreds and a fifty to his credit.
