Members of the Federation of Andhra Pradesh Teachers’ Organizations (FAPTO) have urged the school education department authorities to sanction earned leave (EL) to teachers conducting special and tutoring classes for students who failed the 2026 Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examinations during the ongoing summer vacation.
In a statement presented to Director of School Education Thamee Ansaria on Saturday, FAPTO members referred to the orders issued by the authorities to conduct special and remedial classes for students who failed the SSC and said teachers will extend the necessary guidelines to help improve the pass percentage.
However, they pointed out that students who failed the exams generally had irregular school attendance and that most were unlikely to regularly attend remedial courses. According to them, their attendance largely depended on residential, social and economic conditions at the field level. Under such circumstances, senior officials should not put pressure on teachers regarding students’ attendance, they added.
The federation suggested that special residential tutoring classes should be organized separately for girls in Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas (KGBV) and for boys in Mandal-based model schools to improve attendance among failing students. Since the teachers attending remedial classes were working during summer vacations, ELs should be sanctioned against them as per the rules, they said.
Referring to verbal instructions allegedly issued to principals and teachers to participate in the “Badi Pilustondi” write-up, the federation demanded that proper written orders be issued instead and EL sanctioned accordingly.
FAPTO members said teachers participate in one or the other program every year during the holidays. If the intention was to make them work throughout the holidays, the current “holiday department” system should be reviewed and changed to a “non-holiday department”, they added.
The representation was signed by Federation General Secretary S. Chiranjeevi, President L. Sai Nivas, Co-Presidents K. Narahari, C. Venkateswarlu and K. Prakasha Rao, Deputy General Secretaries N. Venkateswarlu, K. Basava Linga Rao and G. Nivasa Rao, Secretaries and D. Syen Pravo and Iqbal Treasurer Ch. Subba Rao.
