Outgoing Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and DMK chief MK Stalin said on Saturday (May 9, 2026) that the new government should ensure the continuation of the far-sighted and well-planned schemes implemented by the DMK regime.
In a post on social media, Mr. Stalin said that people will continue to benefit if the social security schemes introduced by the DMK government for women, youth, students, children, government employees and marginalized sections of the society are implemented.

“The state will also witness further developments. The new government should take my proposal into consideration,” he said.
Mr Stalin said he welcomed the announcement made by the alliance partners that they would continue to stick with the DMK-led Secular Progressive Alliance (SPA) even as they extended support to the Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) to help overcome the prevailing political crisis in the state after the suspended assembly.
Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) President Thol. Thirumavalavan and Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) national president KM Kader Mohideen on Saturday (May 9, 2026) extended unconditional support to the Vijay-led TVK to form the government in Tamil Nadu.

“The Congress MLAs who fought as part of the DMK alliance did not visit Anna Arivalayam to thank us. The Congress party severed ties with the DMK overnight. But CPI(M) state secretary P. Shanmugam, CPI state secretary M. Veerapandian and VCK leader Thol. Thirumavalavan expressed their camaraderie in it.
Mr. Stalin also thanked the other alliance partners who stood by him and the DMK.
Political uncertainty in the state finally came to an end on Saturday evening (May 9, 2026) after TVK chief Vijay called on Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar at the Lok Bhavan in Chennai to form the government with the support of 120 elected MLAs in the 234-member House.
