
In a ceremony to recognize efforts to strengthen India’s stem cell donor ecosystem, the DKMS Foundation India hosted a ‘Lifesaver Honors Night’ in Bengaluru on Wednesday, bringing together healthcare professionals, institutions, corporate partners and advocates working to fight blood cancers and blood disorders.
Among the honorees was Afshan Yasmeen, Deputy Editor, The Hindu, Bengaluru, who won the Excellence in Blood Cancer and Blood Disorders Reporting award for her story “Silent burden: Thalassemia patients in Karnataka fight the disease with hope and hardship”. The award recognized impactful journalism that helped highlight the challenges facing patients and carers.
The event also honored Latha Jagannathan, Medical Director and Executive Administrator, BMST Bengaluru with a Lifetime Achievement Award for her contribution in the field of blood cancer and blood disease care.
Manipal Institute of Technology (MAHE), Manipal was recognized as the Outstanding Institutional Partner for promoting youth donor registrations, while EXL Technologies India received the Outstanding Corporate Partner award for supporting donor awareness initiatives through CSR programmes.
Speaking at the event, Patrick Paul, Executive Chairman of DKMS India, said the organization’s mission depends on collaboration between healthcare professionals, institutions and public advocates working to provide patients with access to life-saving stem cell transplants.
