
NEW DELHI: Former India cricketer Sunil Gavaskar came down hard on the Delhi Capitals batsmen, criticizing them for their lack of intent in their IPL 2026 match against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on Friday.“They don’t look like hitting sixes,” Gavaskar said on TV commentary during the match, questioning DC’s intent in the powerplay.DC openers KL Rahul and Pathum Nissanka managed just two sixes in the first six overs, both coming from Nissanka. Rahul did not hit a six during his innings as DC scored 55 runs in the powerplay.KL Rahul was dismissed after scoring 23 off 14 balls off Kartik Tyagi on the last ball of the fifth over. Kartik has Rahul caught at mid off by Cameron Green.Earlier, Kolkata Knight Riders captain Ajinkya Rahane won the toss and decided to play against Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League match on Friday.KKR were unchanged from their last game while DC made two changes bringing in Mukesh Kumar and Vipraj Nigam in place of T Natarajan and Karun Nair.Delhi Capitals started their Indian Premier League 2026 campaign well, but have fallen hard since then, losing four of their last five matches. With the play-off battles mounting, they go into tonight’s match in a must-win situation, currently seventh in the points table with four wins from 10 matches.Kolkata Knight Riders are also placed precariously despite winning their last three games. They are eighth in the points table and will be looking to continue their winning momentum to sustain their campaign and climb up the standings.
