A mobile phone addiction program was conducted for the personnel at Yelahanka New Town, Vidyaranyapura, Yelahanka and Kodigehalli Police Stations under the direction of Bengaluru City Police Commissioner.
The meeting was led by health worker Wazeera Begum, who explained the psychological, physical and social effects caused by excessive use of smartphones. Participants were also made aware of the importance of maintaining a healthy balance between digital life and personal life.
Key issues discussed during the awareness program included nomophobia – the fear of not having a mobile phone – sleep disorders, lack of concentration, anxiety, irritability, psychological stress and the sensation of phantom vibrations. The harmful effects of blue light on vision and sleep patterns have also been highlighted.
The seminar further focused on how excessive involvement in the virtual world can negatively affect real-life relationships and social interactions.
As part of the awareness drive, police officers were advised to limit unnecessary use of mobile phones, focus on one task, delete unwanted apps and check notifications. They were also encouraged to participate in outdoor activities, develop positive hobbies and spend quality time with family members.
The use of Digital Wellbeing and Night Mode on smartphones has also been recommended. Additionally, officials emphasized the importance of following the 20-20-20 rule to maintain eye health.
The program concluded with the message that technology should remain under human control and not rule human lives.
