BirlaNu CEO and managing director Akshat Seth said that while India lags behind in adopting green methods in construction compared to other countries, initial conversations about these practices have certainly begun.
Inaugurating the BirlaNu Experience Center in Vijayawada on Thursday, Mr. Akshat Seth, who is also the Vice-Chairman of Birla Healthcare, said that in developed countries, many business specifications are governed by whether a company has the right certification and depending on their environmental impact, a company can be qualified or excluded from a project.
“In these countries, every company is competing to show how responsible it is. While India has not yet reached this stage, conversations about sustainability and the environmental impact of raw materials used in construction have started to take root in the country,” he said, hoping that in two years, not only companies but also consumers will be thinking about conscious choices.
Explaining some of the challenges the construction sector faces in shifting to green models, Mr. Akshat Seth said that sometimes it is a cost factor, while other times it can be inertia.
An experience center that showcases a variety of products, including walls, floors, pipes and sealants in the context of simulated applications, will help consumers make informed decisions. He added that their choice of organic ingredients will help reduce the carbon footprint.
While briefing the media about their fiber cement board plant in Nellore district, Mr. Akshat Seth said that he is looking forward to be a part of Andhra Pradesh’s growth story and partner with the government for future projects.
