The Malkajgiri traffic police on Wednesday booked 516 cases and imposed fines totaling ₹74,900 during a special enforcement drive against pavement encroachments and road obstructions.
The drive was conducted across Trimulgherry and Malkajgiri divisions in coordination with civic authorities.
Officials said the exercise targeted unauthorized occupation of sidewalks by vendors, illegal parking and other obstructions on the roadway that disrupt pedestrian movement and traffic flow. Obstructions were removed during the ride to restore pedestrian access and ease congestion on busy stretches.
Police noted that such obstructions often force pedestrians onto the road, increasing the risk of accidents, especially during rush hours. Strict measures were taken against the violators in accordance with the law.
Authorities warned vendors, traders and the public against encroaching on footpaths or blocking roads, and said violations would attract severe penalties, including the removal of barriers.
Similar rides will continue to take place regularly as part of an effort to increase pedestrian safety and ensure smoother traffic flow.
