
The Geological Survey of India (GSI) will conduct geoscience surveys to evaluate potential mineral resources, including rare earth elements (REEs), scandium, vanadium, nickel and tungsten, in several parts of the state, including Chikkamagaluru and Hassan districts.
A release issued by the Chikkamagaluru district administration on Wednesday said the GSI, working under the Ministry of Mines, Government of India, has sought the cooperation of various departments in the district for its field season program, which began in April 2026 and will continue till March 2027. The Deputy Commissioner’s office has appointed the Zilla Panchayat CEO, Chief Forest Officer and Chief Forest Officer as heads the necessary cooperation on the next head of the police department. GSI in carrying out its operations.
During the field work, GSI officers will camp for at least eight months in the project areas. “Some of these areas may be sensitive, remote, prone to local disturbances and permission from forest and other government departments may be required under certain conditions,” said GSI’s letter to the state government.
GSI sought from the state administration to “facilitate the smooth implementation of the field program approved by the Government of India for the benefit of regional and national development”.
