A six-month-old child was rescued within 48 hours of her abduction in Suraram and five persons, including two juveniles, have been arrested in connection with the case.
The accused have been identified as Sridevi, 35, a resident of Mailardevpally; Karthik, 18; and Johnson, 24, both of Rajendranagar, along with two juveniles aged 17 years. All the accused are natives of Karnataka but were residing in Hyderabad.
The incident came to light in the early hours of May 4 when the child’s mother, Navaneetha, filed a complaint that her baby girl was abducted by unknown persons from a place opposite Narayana Mallareddy Hospital around 2 am. Based on the complaint, the Suraram police registered a case and formed four special teams to trace the child.
According to investigators, the crime was premeditated. Sridevi devised a plan to procure a child for her sister-in-law who was desperate for childlessness. She conspired with her associates who all worked in the hospitality sector. The group surveyed the hospital on May 3 before returning later that night to target a family sleeping on the trail. Two of the accused took advantage of the situation and kidnapped the infant and escaped on a motorcycle.
After analyzing the CCTV footage and other technical evidence, the police identified the suspects and traced them to a function hall in Rajendranagar. The accused were apprehended on the night of May 5 and the infant was safely rescued.
Police seized the motorcycle and five mobile phones used in the offence.
