Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday changed the profile picture of his official X account to mark the first anniversary of “Operation Sindoor”, the military operation launched by India in response to the 2025 Pahalgam terror attack.
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar also updated his picture on the social media platform, with the two leaders using visuals referring to Operation Sindoor on May 7, exactly a year after the operation began.
The updated profile pictures highlighted the significance of the operation, which has become one of India’s most significant military responses since the 2025 terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam that left 26 dead.
Jaishankar shared an update on X with the hashtag “#NewProfilePic”, while several leaders and defense officials posted messages commemorating the anniversary.
Rajnath Singh pays tribute to the armed forces
Defense Minister Rajnath Singh paid tribute to the Indian armed forces, describing Operation Sindoor as a “powerful symbol of national resolve and preparedness”.
In a post on X, Singh said the operation reflected the “unparalleled precision, seamless connectivity and deep cross-service synergy” displayed by the armed forces.
“On the anniversary of Operation Sindoor, we pay tribute to the valor and sacrifices of our armed forces whose courage and determination continue to protect the nation,” he wrote.
The defense minister also said the operation demonstrated India’s growing military preparedness and progress towards self-sufficiency in defense capabilities under the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative.
Operation Sindoor And The Pahalgam Attack
Operation Sindoor was launched on 7 May 2025 following the Pahalgam terror attack that left 26 dead and sharply escalated tensions between India and Pakistan.
Indian armed forces have carried out strikes against terrorist infrastructure located in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK). According to official statements issued after the operation, the attacks targeted camps and launch pads associated with terrorist organizations such as Lashkar-e-Taiba, Jaish-e-Mohammed and Hizbul Mujahideen.
Government sources said at the time that nine terrorist launch pads were destroyed and more than 100 terrorists were killed during the coordinated operation.
A four-day military escalation followed
Following the Indian strikes, Pakistan launched drone strikes and cross-border shelling, sparking a four-day military confrontation between the two countries.
India responded with retaliatory strikes targeting radar facilities in Lahore and radar facilities near Gujranwala, according to official statements released during the conflict.
The hostilities finally ended after communication between the Directors General of Military Operations (DGMOs) of India and Pakistan. A ceasefire agreement was reached on 10 May 2025.
Indian Air Force shares a video
To mark the first anniversary of the operation, the Indian Air Force shared a video on its official X account shortly after midnight retracing key moments from Operation Sindoor and honoring the role played by the Indian armed forces during the mission.
The anniversary prompted several political leaders and officials to recall the operation and the events that took place after the Pahalgam terror attack.
