
Amanpreet Singh Gill and Virat Kohli Amanpreet Singh Gill, a former Punjab cricketer, passed away on Wednesday, May 6 at the age of 36, leaving the cricketing fraternity in deep shock.Amanpreet Singh Gill played domestic cricket for the Punjab team and was considered a lively and dedicated fast bowler. In 2007, he represented India in the Under-19 Tri-Series in Sri Lanka, featuring alongside the likes of Virat Kohli and Manish Pandey. During this tournament, Amanpreet picked up nine wickets in five matches and played a key role in the final against Bangladesh where he produced a match-winning performance.Following the news of his death, former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh shared an emotional tribute to X, reminiscing about their early days together.“Deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Amanpreet Singh Gill. He shared the dressing room in our early days and was a quiet, hard working cricketer who loved the game. Heartfelt condolences to his family and loved ones. Rest in peace Om Shanti.”

Born in Chandigarh in September 1989, Amanpreet built his reputation through domestic cricket and later played for Kings XI Punjab (Now Punjab Kings) in the Indian Premier League. After retiring from playing, he remained involved with the game by serving on the Punjab Senior Selection Committee, contributing to the growth of young cricketers in the state.The Punjab Cricket Association offered its condolences and remembered him for his dedication on and off the field. His last rites were to be held later that day at the Manimajra Cremation Ground in Chandigarh. The cause of his death has not been released, the cricketing community has chosen to focus on celebrating his life and contribution to the sport.
