Former India cricketer Dodda Ganesh has questioned the seriousness of Delhi Capitals following their latest defeat at IPL 2026 and criticized the team selections and tactical decisions following their loss to Chennai Super Kings. As DC’s playoff hopes began to waver heavily, Ganesh openly criticized the franchise for ignoring what he saw as obvious challenges.
Delhi again struggled for clarity in both selection and execution during their eight-wicket defeat at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. Reacting to the loss, Ganesh questioned DC Pathum Nissanko’s continued support at the top, while veteran finisher David Miller remained on the bench despite the side’s middle-order issues.
IPL, DC vs CSK: UPDATE | SCORECARD
“There is so much Indian batting talent available in the Delhi camp. They can so easily open Shaw/Rana/Porel along with KL and have Miller in the middle order. Instead the geniuses play Nissanko at the top and drop Miller. Tell me how this can be a serious cricket team?” Ganesh posted on X.
Frustration over Delhi’s tactics has been building for some time. Against CSK, it surfaced again with more crushing batting, uncertain combinations and defensive bowling plans during a chase that never really got out of Chennai’s control.
TACTICAL DISASTER DC VS CSK
Almost every major call Delhi made on the night seemed to fall flat.
The first bet arrived at the toss when Axar Patel elected to bat first despite the rain around Delhi and improving chase conditions in the light. DC believed the surface would slow down later but instead ended up posting just 156 on the ground where 170 plus almost became a safety score.
The batting order again caused confusion.
Pathum Nissanka retained his place after hitting a match-winning 62 against Rajasthan Royals, but inconsistency quickly returned as he managed just 19 off 15 balls. His inclusion again meant that David Miller remained out despite Delhi’s struggles in the middle overs.
Then there is the question of Abishek Porel.
Porel top scored with 30 during DC’s collapse of 75 against RCB and looked one of the few positives in this match. Yet he again found himself out of the playing XI as Delhi continued to search for mid-season combinations.
CAPTAIN AXAR PATELA UNDER THE SCANNER
Defending 156 required Delhi to be aggressive from the start but their plans never put CSK under pressure.
The fielding often looked too defensive for such a modest target, allowing Chennai easy singles early in the chase. This meant that the asking rate remained comfortable almost all the time.
There were also phases when DC looked shaky with their bowling changes. Instead of attacking for small breakthroughs or building pressure through a narrower field, Chennai’s batters have been allowed to settle.
And that is perhaps the biggest problem for Delhi now.
