Delhi Capitals’ woes continued at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi after the team lost their fourth home match of the Indian Premier League 2026 season. DC have played five home matches this season, losing four.
Apart from winning their first home match of the season against Mumbai Indians, DC have lost every single match at the Kotle, compounding their woes this season. In the four matches they have lost, apart from the Gujarat Titans game, DC have been carried away in almost all of them.
DC AT HOME: 5 GAMES, 4 LOSSES
In the day’s match against Punjab Kings on a flat DC deck, he lost after scoring 264 runs – one of the highest totals in IPL history. In the next match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru, DC were given a slightly seamed wicket which saw them bundle out for just 75 runs.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Josh Hazlewood ran riot in that game, which spelled a crushing defeat for DC on April 27.
Returning to Kotla again on Tuesday, DC won the toss and elected to bat first in the hope that the pitch would slow down in the second innings. The reality turned out to be the opposite as Sanju Samson anchored Chennai Super Kings to an eight-wicket win.
Delhi Capitals head coach Hemang Badani lamented in the post-match press conference that they have not been able to read the pitch this season. Badani said the DCs do not have control over the surfaces as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) monitors the wickets to ensure neutrality in the IPL.
“As much as I’d like to think we’re in control of the surfaces we want to play on, there’s a clear mandate from the BCCI. They’re the ones who set the guidelines to ensure neutrality, that there’s no local advantage. You play what’s presented to you. Yes, it’s been a bit up and down to understand what we’re going to get. One game was 75 surfaces, the next was 265 after the match.”
The coach called on his team to raise their performances in the last four matches of the tournament. DC will play two of their remaining four matches at home and will be hoping to climb to a more respectable position in the points table.
“I think collectively we have to play better. I wouldn’t single out one individual. In one match we put up 265 and we couldn’t defend. In the next one we lost by one run. We lost five wickets in that match. So it’s not about one person. We need to play better cricket as a team. That’s the reality,” Badani said.
DC are currently seventh in the league table after 10 games. They are in danger of slipping to eighth place if they lose to Kolkata Knight Riders on Friday, May 8.
