The Norwegian eventually resigned after being imprisoned.“I never thought it would happen. I was already resigned to a draw and I was fine with it. Then all of a sudden I got this moment out of the blue and things got out of hand,” Van Foreest said. “It was a fascinating game and I think he thought so too. That’s why we discussed it a lot.”Carlsen spoke of how deeply his loss to world champion Gukesh affected him. During Norwegian Chess 2025, he reacted angrily by banging the table after his defeat, later admitting that the loss made him doubt.“It was a really painful loss. Those come a lot harder,” Carlsen said during an interview with Pardon My Take.“Honestly, a part of me when I lost (to Gukesh) recently, I just felt like it was so stupid and so pointless. I felt kind of dry and pointless that for days I just thought ‘I’m not sure why I’m doing this.’ When I win, it’s good, but it feels kind of normal. Then when I lose, it’s just, you know, the world comes crashing down for a while.”Arjun Erigaisi drew his match against Nodirbek Abdusattorov and remained undefeated in the tournament. Meanwhile, 14-year-old Yagız Kaan Erdogmus defeated Nils Grandelius, who suffered his fourth straight loss.
