
Delhi Capitals are all set for an intense showdown with Chennai Super Kings at the Arun Jaitley Stadium today. Ahead of the much-anticipated clash, the Delhi Traffic Police had issued a traffic advisory on May 5, warning of route closures and diversions. Delhi Metro has also extended Trin timings in view of IPL 2026 match.
Commuters and visitors must pay attention to diversions, parking curbs and marked entrance routes. Although the match between Delhi Capitals and Chennai Super Kings is scheduled to take place between 19:00 and 22:30, the traffic curbs will come into effect much earlier. Restrictions will be introduced on Tuesday from 17:00 to midnight, according to the notification.
A news release said, “In view of the Tata Indian Premier League 2026 matches, special traffic arrangements will be in place at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.” The cricket match is scheduled between 19:00 and 22:30.
Due to the popularity of the IPL matches and the expected large attendance of spectators, the authorities anticipate heavy traffic congestion in and around the stadium premises.
Several diversions and traffic restrictions will be introduced to effectively deal with the situation. Long key traffic routes like Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg and Jawaharlal Nehru (JLN) Marg will be affected from 5:00 PM to 12:00 AM.

According to the notification, heavy and commercial vehicles will not be allowed on several important sections including
- Daryaganj to Delhi Gate Chowk
- Delhi Gate Chowk Guru Nanak Chowk
- ITO to Delhi Gate
Routes to avoid
The advisory also strongly recommends that commuters avoid the following high-traffic areas during matches.
- JLN Marg (from Rajghat to Delhi Gate)
- Asaf Ali Road (from Turkmen Gate to Delhi Gate)
- Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg (from Delhi Gate to ITO)
Clear entry instructions have been provided for spectators attending the match. To access the stadium, the visitor has to approach from Gate 1 to 8 (South side) via Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg. Entry from gates 10 to 15 (east side) will be accessible via JLN Marg near Ambedkar Stadium Bus Terminal. Gates 16 to 18 (West Side) can also be reached via Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg, which is located near the petrol pump.
Delhi Metro extends timings of IPL matches
The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation has issued a notification announcing the extension of metro timings. A post on X said, “Delhi Metro has extended the timings of the last trains on all lines for the IPL match at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on May 5, ensuring smooth and hassle-free travel for all cricket lovers heading home after the match.” Some trains will run even after 2:00 a.m., while the metro closes until 11:00 p.m. according to regular timetables.
“The timings of the last trains may be further reduced/extended in accordance with the timing of the completion of the match,” the advisor further states. Metro services will be available much later than usual to handle late night crowd movement, ensure safe and comfortable public transport and reduce traffic congestion. Some subway lines, including the Pink and Magenta, will run well past midnight until 2:20 a.m.
