The United Democratic Front (UDF) made a clean sweep in 14 constituencies in Ernakulam district, while the Left Democratic Front (LDF) suffered its worst defeat in the district in one-and-a-half decades.
Five segments that stood with the Left Front in the 2021 elections, including Kalamassera, Kunnathunad, Kochi, Vypeen and Kothamangalam, have shifted their allegiance to the UDF. The Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) decision to give the majority of seats in the district to its Twenty20 alliance partner failed miserably as the corporate-backed political group could have no influence on the final outcome. The Left won three seats in the 2011 election and increased its number to five in 2016 and 2021.
