Despite a clear anti-Left wave sweeping the state, Thrissur stood out as a green island for the Left Democratic Front (LDF), which retained nine of the district’s 13 assembly constituencies. The United Democratic Front (UDF), riding on a broader pace, managed to secure four seats – Chalakudy, Irinjalakuda, Kodungallur and Thrissur.
The LDF’s victories came from Manalur, Guruvayur, Kaipamangalam, Nattika, Wadakkanchery, Puthukkad, Chelakkara, Ollur and Kunnamkulam, underscoring the front’s entrenched organizational strength in the district. However, the results were far from comfortable. In constituencies like Manalur and Guruvayur, the UDF came agonizingly close and lost by the narrowest of margins in tense contests.
