The wait for Chennai Super Kings talisman MS Dhoni continued in the Indian Premier League 2026 after the veteran missed out on CSK’s trip to Delhi. Dhoni did not travel to CSK’s match against Delhi Capitals on May 5.
Cricbuzz reported that Dhoni remains in Chennai for rehabilitation from the calf injury he sustained earlier in the season. Dhoni did not play a single match in the 2026 Indian Premier League season when Sanju Samson donned the gloves for the team.
It has been a season of mixed success for CSK so far. After a tough start, CSK have collected three wins in their last five matches, which has taken them to the sixth position in the points table.
Sanju Samson led the way with two centuries in his first season with the team. The goalkeeper has 315 runs in 9 matches.
WHY DOES MS DHONI’S INJURY LIST?
MS Dhoni came close to being fully fit midway through the season but ended up getting injured again during training.
Speaking after Chennai’s match against Gujarat Titans on April 26, head coach Stephen Fleming explained what exactly went wrong with Dhoni.
Fleming explained that Dhoni’s calf remains a major concern, especially as any serious strain could rule him out for the rest of the season. As a result, CSK opted for a cautious approach rather than risk aggravating the injury in a competitive match.
“That calf is tough though. If he takes off and tears that calf again, then he’s gone. So we moved it early. He tweaked it again in the warmup game. I understand that and since then he’s just been working hard to get some movement in it. But there was a setback, so it took longer than we thought,” Fleming said.
