Jana Nayagan star Vijay put up a stellar show on Monday with the Tamil Nadu Assembly election results showing him leading the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) with 110 seats, 2.20 pm trends indicated. TVK needs to secure 118 seats to cross the majority threshold. All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) leads with 63 seats and Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) in 60 constituencies.
Vijay takes the lead in both the constituencies
Actor-turned-politician C Joseph Vijay is leading from Perambur with 45,917 votes, according to Election Commission of India (ECI) trends after the eighth round. DMK’s RD Shekar is trailing by a huge margin of 19,100 votes. The 51-year-old TVK chief has also contested from Tiruchirappalli (East) constituencies, where he is leading with 32,792 votes and DMK’s S Inigo Irudayaraj is trailing by 12,015 votes, according to the ECI post-eighth round tally.
A video shared by Vijay’s fan club is going viral on social media showing celebrations at Thalapathy Vijay’s house.
Speaking to ANI, mother of TVK chief Vijay Shoba Chandrasekhar said, “I am so happy.” His father SA Chandrasekhar also expressed his happiness and said, “It’s not just his mother. She’s Vijay’s first fan. She’s so happy.”
As the early trends emerged, police tightened security outside the TVK chief’s house in Chennai.
Speaking to ANI, TVK supporter Mahesh said, “I am a big fan of Vijay. We have come to support him. Right now we are leading. We are expecting more than 130 seats. We are very proud of Vijay. Everyone wants a change. It is like a tsunami…Vijay will be the next Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu.”
However, visuals from TVK’s outer office in Chennai showed a contrasting picture. It was quiet outside as the official ECI trends flowed with the count still in full swing.
Reacting to TVK’s significant lead, DMK Kanimozhi leader and spokesperson NVN Somu said, “He has a decent fan base. All his fans would vote for him… Tamil Nadu has a history of people coming from cinema who can enter politics. This is nothing new for us. But anyway numbers will play… DMK will win with a good number,” reported ANI.
She added: “We have to see how many votes they share, what percentage of votes they actually take from whom. That will be the biggest question of the day for us.”
The Tamil Nadu Assembly elections held in one phase on April 23 saw a record voter turnout of 84.69 percent, the highest since independence. The previous best was 78.29 percent, which was recorded in 2011.
In 2026, Vijay’s TVK made a remarkable debut. While the ruling DMK-Congress alliance, led by Chief Minister MK Stalin, is seeking to retain power, the AIADMK-BJP camp is seeking to take control of the state. The DMK-led alliance is fighting in 164 constituencies and its ally, the Congress, in 28 seats. AIADMK contested 167 seats, BJP 27, Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) 18 and TTV Dhinakaran’s AMMK 11 seats.
