The Congress-led six-party front hopes to drop the opposition tag by preventing the Bharatiya Janata Party-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) from achieving a hat-trick after April 9. Assamelection results are announced on Monday (May 4, 2026).
Both alliances are gunning to win at least 64 seats, a simple majority in the 126-member assembly. While Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma-helmed BJP has predicted nearly 100 seats for the NDA, the Gaurav Gogoi-led Congress believes a similar number will return the Asom Sonmilito Morcha (ASM) to power after 10 years.
