Distributors limit new connections to migrant workers, those coming for transfers and newlyweds.
Since Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) distributors provide only five kg cylinders to those who opt for a new connection, few opt for it due to its high cost. A fresh connection for 5 kg Free Trade LPG (FTL) costs around ₹ 1,760 inclusive of cylinder cost. Meanwhile, a domestic cylinder weighing 14.2 kg costs around ₹930.
The distributors say they are only following instructions from state-owned oil marketing companies (OMCs) and providing these five-kilogram bottles FTL to migrant workers, transferees and newlyweds. “This is a standstill agreement until the situation improves. We stopped all new connections a month ago,” the distributor said.
