State Speaker Jana Chaitanya Vedika-AP Bankura Joginaidu on Sunday urged the Union and state governments to bring legislation to implement political reservations for backward classes in both Parliament and Legislative Assemblies in the country. He presented the memorandum to Vizianagaram MP Kalisetta Appala Naidu, who in turn assured him that she would bring the matter to the attention of both governments.
Speaking to the media, Mr. Naidu said that reservation in local bodies should be extended to all 145 communities, which have been divided into five categories. He said that only a few dominant communities are getting benefits of political reservation in municipal elections, MPTC and ZPTC elections while doing injustice to more than 100 communities in the state. Mr. Naidu said that Rajiv Ranjan Mishra, Chairman of the BC Dedicated Commission, was presented with a statement to extend the benefits of reservation to all 145 communities in the state. EOM
