The French company SUEZ, which has taken over the operation and maintenance of Kochi’s water distribution systems, is in the final stages of a walk-through survey of the Kerala Water Authority (KWA) pipe network within the limits of the Kochi Corporation. According to a KWA official, the walk-through survey, which includes ground inspection of the pipeline, will be completed soon. Meanwhile, a door-to-door survey is underway in Kaloor and Karuvelippady.
The official said the consumer surveys were slightly delayed due to the elections, but efforts are now underway to speed up the process. “An exploratory survey involves recording pipeline routes and documentation of parameters without excavation, based largely on knowledge and experience. It may not be completely accurate and may be approximately 50% accurate. In areas of uncertainty, test pits and planned excavations will be required for verification,” the official said.
