After the victory, the team returned to the hotel and celebrated the occasion by smashing a cake in the face of none other than Andre Russell, who had celebrated his birthday a few days before the game.
KKR posted a video of the celebration on social media where players can be seen rubbing an entire chocolate cake on Russell’s face. Russell’s former West Indies teammate Narine started the fun first while head coach Abhishek Nayar held Russell from behind while the rest of the team watched the hilarious scene unfold.
KKR HAMMER SRH AT HYDERABAD
Kolkata Knight Riders continued their remarkable turnaround in IPL 2026 with a convincing seven-wicket victory over SunRisers Hyderabad on Sunday as they chased down 166 with ease in Hyderabad.
After going winless in their first six matches, KKR have now won three on the trot to keep their playoff hopes alive. The turnaround was largely due to their spin attack with Varun Chakravarthy leading the charge. The mystery spinner returned to form with figures of 3 for 36, troubling the SRH batsmen with his variations, while Sunil Narine chipped in with two wickets and also claimed his 200th IPL scalp.
SRH started strongly after being put in to bat, Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head getting to 44 in just 3.3 overs. Head looked particularly dangerous, cracking a 22-ball fifty and threatening a massive score. However, Chakravarthy turned the game on its head by dismissing him for 61 in the ninth over.
The wicket triggered the collapse, with SRH losing nine wickets for just 60 runs. Heinrich Klaasen failed to capitalize on the chances he missed while Ishan Kishan was left stranded without the support of the middle order. Narine then struck the decisive blow by removing Kishan and Salil Arora in the same over as SRH were bowled out for 165 in 19 overs.
In response, Finn Allen gave KKR a flying start when he took on Pat Cummins in the over. Although he fell early, his quickfire 29 set the tone for the chase.
Captain Ajinkya Rahane and Angkrish Raghuvanshi then put together a quiet partnership of 84 runs to take the game away from SRH. Both the batsmen managed their innings well and ensured that there was no pressure on the score.
Despite losing a few wickets late on, KKR completed the chase in 18.2 overs with Rinku Singh completing the job.
With three consecutive wins, KKR have reignited their campaign while SRH will have to regroup quickly after a rare batting failure.
