My wife is Argentinian: Cristiano Ronaldo revealed the funny conversation with the flight attendant

Cristiano Ronaldo has prepared a fiery and ancient press conference ahead of Portugal’s crucial Round of 16 match against Spain at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. hints at his international future Ronaldo displayed the classic siege mentality that has so often driven him to perfection on the football pitch in a sharp move on probing journalists.

In a fun memory that temporarily lightened the mood, the 41-year-old forward shared a story illustrating his belief that Argentines generally don’t look at him with love. He explained that this sentiment became amusingly evident during a recent interaction with a crew member on a Portuguese flight to Arlington, Texas.

“Yesterday during the flight one of the flight attendants was Argentinian,” Ronaldo told a room full of journalists.

“I knew. I knew she was Argentine by the way she looked at me. So I told her, ‘I’m sure you’re from Argentina.’ She said to me: ‘And how did you know?’ I said, “By the way you were looking at me.”

Given the historic rivalry with Lionel Messi, any interaction with the Argentine naturally carries an unspoken footballing tension.

“She said, ‘And how did I look at you?’ I said, ‘You looked at me and then quickly turned away! And that means you (Argentinians) don’t like Cristiano.” She said just for fun that my wife (Georgina) is Argentinian, so of course I must have a special fondness for Argentinians as well. He’s from Buenos Aires.”

Born in Argentina, Georgina Rodrguez has been Cristiano Ronaldo’s partner since 2016 when they met while she was working at the Gucci store in Madrid.

While the light-hearted anecdote filled the press room with laughter, Ronaldo’s explosive exchanges with the wider press corps sparked a new row. Confronted with persistent questions from reporters about his age, performance and impending retirement, the iconic forward hit back at his detractors. He openly accused critics of trying to metaphorically “kill” him for more than two decades, defiantly declaring that he remains the master of his own destiny and will only retire on his own terms.

Ronaldo’s release of frustration was understandable given he was one of the most watched players at the tournament. After failing to open the scoring in Portugal’s opening group game, the veteran forward responded in typical fashion by hitting a comprehensive brace against Uzbekistan.

He followed that up by finally ending the long and highly publicized wait for his first career goal in the knockout stages of the World Cup. Ronaldo calmly converted the penalty helped secure a vital 2-1 win over Croatia in the round of 32. He was eventually substituted in the second half of that game, a tactical decision by manager Roberto Martinez that the Portugal captain was visibly unconvinced of as he left the pitch.

Portugal now head into their monumental round of 16 clash against neighbors Spain at the Dallas Stadium, and Ronaldo will do so with exceptionally fond memories. The last time these two historic Iberian rivals faced off on the World Cup stage, Ronaldo memorably scored a spectacular hat-trick to salvage a dramatic 3-3 draw during the group stage in Sochi. With his international future on the line, all eyes will once again be on the legendary number seven.
