A view of the red markings on Thoppur Ghat Road
Thoppur Ghat Road, which has seen more than 200 fatalities in the past three years, has become the first stretch of national highways in the state to be painted red to help reduce speed and improve vehicle stability.
Two 300 meter long stretches of NH 44 were painted red, in 2mx3m patches, with thermoplastic paint. This will improve visibility and keep drivers alert, sources in the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) said.
