US war on Iran LIVE: Renewed focus shifted to a US-Iran peace deal after US President Donald Trump said on Saturday he would review Tehran’s new proposal but cast doubt on its prospects. According to Iranian media, Tehran submitted a 14-point proposal to the Pakistani mediator. The plan includes a proposal to end the conflict on all fronts and enact a new framework for the Strait of Hormuz waterway, Iran’s Tasnim and Fars news agencies reported.
In a post on the Truth Social platform, Trump said: “I will soon evaluate the plan that Iran just sent us, but I can’t imagine that it is acceptable because they have not yet paid a big enough price for what they have done to humanity and the world over the last 47 years,” Trump said on his Truth Social platform.
“The ball is now in the court of the United States,” says Iran
On May 3, Iran reaffirmed its position to resume open war if its demands were not met, saying the decision on a negotiated settlement rested with the United States.
“Now the ball is in the court of the United States to choose the path of diplomacy or to continue the confrontational approach,” state television IRIB quoted Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi as saying. He added: “Iran is ready to go either way to ensure its national interests and security.”
Donald Trump said on Saturday that the US would withdraw more than 5,000 troops from Germany than previously announced by the Pentagon amid an escalating dispute with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz. It comes after German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius suggested that Europeans needed to take more responsibility for their own security.
Last week, Merz highlighted Washington’s lack of strategy when he criticized the war in Iran, saying the US was being “humiliated” by Iran’s leadership.
