Jamie Overton has been one of the fastest bowlers in IPL 2026 and Tilak Varma found that out the hard way on Saturday in Chepauk. The Mumbai Indians batsman was hit on the wrist by Overton’s searing delivery, the impact so violent that it tore off his fitness wristband.

Overton was brought into the attack in the 12th over and wasted no time in making his presence felt. Bowling with his typical pace and aggression, he challenged Tilak with a short delivery. The batter looked cheeky in response, shuffling across the crease and trying to pick up. But he failed to line up the shot properly and the ball landed on his wrist, where he was wearing a fitness band. The force of the impact flew away.
The moment drew gasps from the crowd at the MA Chidambaram Stadium and quickly went viral, serving as a vivid reminder of how fast Overton can be when in full swing.

Tilak, to his credit, shrugged and went on with his innings. However, he could not find his footing in what was a difficult affair for Mumbai’s middle order. He eventually fell on top and tried to sweep a turning delivery, with Ruturaj Gaikwad taking a neat catch.
It was indicative of Mumbai’s evening as a whole. They never found the authority or dynamism that their situation required. Naman Dhir top-scored with 57 off 37 balls in a solitary effort but the rest of the batting fell apart around him. Captain Hardik Pandya’s modest 18 off 23 balls only made matters worse. Mumbai finished with 159 for seven, a total that always looked below par on a Chepauk pitch that offered nothing for the bowlers.
Chennai made short work of the chase. Ruturaj Gaikwad hit an unbeaten 67 off 48 balls while Kartik Sharma got into the game with 54 not out from 40 balls, his first IPL fifty, lead CSK home with eight wickets in hand and 11 balls to spare.
For Tilak, the fitness band was a small casualty of a demanding evening. For Mumbai, the damage was much deeper.
