Trade unions in Kerala and workers from various public and private sector undertakings celebrated May Day in the state on Friday (May 1, 2026), expressing concern over the violation of labor rights and the introduction of four labor codes replacing 29 existing laws in the country.
In a message to the working class on May 1, celebrated as International Workers’ Day to honor the working class and commemorate their struggle for fair wages and better working conditions, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said that even as neoliberal policies that undermine workers’ rights are sweeping across India, voices of protest are emerging from the labor sector, which is very hopeful.
