A Sindhudurg sessions court convicted Maharashtra government minister Nitesh Rane for intentionally insulting a public servant on Monday (April 27, 2026). The court sentenced Rane to one month in jail and a fine of Rs 1 lakh for forcing a National Highways Authority engineer to walk on a muddy road.
Additional Sessions Judge VS Deshmukh ruled that Rane, then an MLA from the Congress party, forced Prakash Shedekar, a sub-divisional engineer of the National Highways Authority (NHA), to walk on a mud-covered road. The incident took place in Kankavali, Rane constituency on July 4, 2019.
